October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM). This month is designed to educate and raise awareness through events and initiatives. NCSAM’s goal is to increase knowledge on this topic and to make everyone using the internet to
STOP. THINK. CONNECT.
Its leading operators come from the U.S Department of Homeland Security mixed with the National Cyber Security Alliance. NCSAM has grown in all different ways, reaching consumers, small-medium and big businesses. NCSAM has also reached multinational corporations, educational institution and maybe the most important one would be young people.
Our President Barack Obama declared October as National Cyber Security Month, he stated the following;
“In our increasingly connected digital world, we have the power to innovate in unprecedented ways. With the advent of new and improved technologies, we must also keep pace with safeguarding our critical infrastructure networks that, although empowering, create previously unforeseen vulnerabilities. During National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we recognize the importance of remaining vigilant against any and all cyber threats, while recommitting to ensuring our people can use new digital tools and resources fearlessly, skillfully, and responsibly…. NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 2015 as National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. I call upon the people of the United States to recognize the importance of cybersecurity and to observe this month with activities, events, and training that will enhance our national security and resilience.” (Barack Obama, Sep.13.2015)
What is STOP.THINK.CONNECT?
Stop. Think. Connect. is a campaigning designed to raise awareness for NCSAM, this campaign wants users to understand the consequences of your actions when spending time on the internet.
STOP: Before you use the Internet, take time to understand the risks and learn how to spot potential problems.
THINK: Take a moment to be certain the path ahead is clear. Watch for warning signs and consider how your actions online could impact your safety, or your family’s.
CONNECT: Enjoy the Internet with greater confidence, knowing you’ve taken the right steps to safeguard yourself and your computer.
